UCLH Proton Therapy Beam Unit
We provided advice on all aspects of rights of light and daylight & sunlight advice for the development that will house the first proton beam therapy unit in the UK.
Proton Beam therapy is one of the most advanced form of radiotherapy. It utilizes a precision beam of high energy particles (protons) to destroy cancer cells.
The 34,500 sqm building, much of which is underground, is on the corner of Tottenham Court Road and Grafton Way in central London.
The development will allow UCLH advanced cancer services to be delivered from the Trust’s campus where it can continue the close collaboration with UCL on ground breaking research projects.
In addition to the Proton Beam Therapy unit and all of its associated support services, the building also houses a new short stay surgical centre providing 8 operating theatres, 120 inpatient HAEM / ONC beds, full diagnostic imaging services and associated support facilities. The top floor of the building accommodates 40 beds for a major UK Private Hospital provider.
The completed Proton Beam Therapy Unit was officially opened by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales on the 2nd March 2022.
